Privacy Policy

StudySphere and the StudySphere Chrome Extension are built by a student, for students. We collect only what is strictly necessary to make the app work, and we never sell your data.

1. Who we are

StudySphere is a personal project. The app is hosted at studysphere-website.netlify.app. For questions, contact medalimariam@gmail.com.

2. What data we collect

We collect the minimum required to provide the service:

Account information — your name and email address, provided when you sign in with Google.
Lecture notes — AI-generated summaries you choose to save. These are stored in your account and visible only to you.
Usage preferences — settings like dark mode, language, and layout stored in your browser's local storage.
Uploaded files — PDFs you upload to your course folders, stored securely in Supabase Storage and accessible only by you.

3. What the Chrome Extension collects

The StudySphere Extension runs on lecture pages (YouTube, Opencast, and similar platforms). It:

Reads the transcript or captions of the currently playing video when you click Summarize
Sends that transcript to the StudySphere AI backend to generate a summary
Saves the resulting summary to your StudySphere account

The extension does not record audio, track your browsing history, or collect any data unless you explicitly click Summarize.

4. How we use your data

To provide and improve the StudySphere service
To display your lecture notes, uploaded files, and settings across devices
To generate AI summaries when you request them

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell or share your data with third parties.

5. Third-party services

StudySphere uses the following third-party services:

Supabase — authentication and database. Supabase Privacy Policy
OpenAI — AI summaries and answers. Transcripts are sent to OpenAI to generate responses. OpenAI Privacy Policy
Netlify — hosting and serverless functions. Netlify Privacy Policy

6. Data storage and security

Your data is stored in Supabase (Frankfurt, EU region). Access is protected by row-level security — only you can read your own data. Uploaded files are stored in private Supabase Storage buckets.

7. Your rights

You can:

Delete your lecture notes at any time from within the app
Delete uploaded files at any time
Request full account deletion by emailing medalimariam@gmail.com — we will delete all your data within 7 days

8. Cookies

StudySphere does not use tracking cookies. Session tokens are stored in your browser's localStorage and sessionStorage solely to keep you signed in.

9. Children

StudySphere is intended for university students (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
